Freeuse success!
Relaunch
The new site was developed in the autumn and launched in December 2009. The development saw the previous site revamped and updated and an address change. www.freeuseit.org became the new place to come to reuse your unwanted items.
The site was given a stylish and updated look, which not only looks great, it also helps people get around the site better. There are some technical improvements aswell, which means we can now find out lots of information about the site at the click of a button. We can let users know how many kg's have been diverted from landifll, this is also used for the site as a whole, which helps measure its success.
June 08' - Dec 09'
Freeuse launched in 2008 and was only available to North West Leicestershire District residents. Up until the new freeuse site was launched in December 2009 the site had managed to divert over 7000kgs of waste from landfill. That is the same as
219 - fridges or,
658 - flat screen TV's or,
875 - pushchairs
With the new, easy to use and better looking site we are aiming even higher. Every resident in the Leicestershire area can use the site. That means more items available for those looking for a bargain and more chance of rehoming those unwanted belongings.
More ways to reuse
There are lots of other ways you can reuse unwanted household items. Alot of items can be reused into new objects, like old wellies into stylish plantpots. For more tips and hints on reusing household items visit the Leicestershire Waste Partnership website, lesswaste.org.uk.
National reuse sites are gaining in popularity and although the item you give or take may not be local you are quite likely to find what you want. Websites like freecycle, freegle, and don'tdumpthat are all popular.
